School Magazine

During Term 3, we usually are busy getting organised for our School Magazine. This year has made this very difficult for obvious reasons but one student has been proactive and taken on an editorial role to help us get the ball rolling. Candace M has started a 3 part article for this year’s magazine that focuses on how the remote learning experience has been navigated by students, parents and staff of Buninyong PS.

With the help of Candace’s parents, she has completed part one and is busily working with Mr Walsh on parts two and three.

Part one is all about the student experience during our first bout of remote learning where Candace has reflected on her time, discussing what has been successful and which parts have been challenging.

We are looking forward to reading the finished 3 part piece in the magazine later this year.

This year the magazine will have all the usual features, however, we are looking for ideas that will help us remember what has been a very strange year. If you have a great idea, send it through to david.young@education.vic.gov.au

Compass Tip of the Week

In a time where we are relying so much on the use of Compass and Webex, it is understandable that from time to time our technology will frustrate us or let us down. To assist with these frustrations there is a function on your Compass portal that will assist in finding the answers.

Under the Community Tab there is an option called School Documentation. This is where you will find lots of information and links to help solve regular problems. By clicking on BPS Remote Learning, a menu will be revealed.

Science Week

This week, you will probably notice your child/children taking part in some sort of science learning to help celebrate National Science Week. The theme of this year’s Science Week is Deep Blue: Innovations for the futures of our oceans.

Have you ever wanted to be a marine Biologist?

There’s never a dull moment when you work as a marine biologist. You might come face-to-face with an octopus, a seal, a dolphin—or maybe a predatory sea star that can destroy our coral reefs. Professor Maria Byrne followed a lifelong passion for exploring the underwater world and applies her in-depth knowledge of sea stars to find better ways to manage crown-of-thorns starfish.

There is so much to offer with this year’s theme, so if you are looking to help continue the celebrations at home, please have a look at the great ideas represented in the booklet.
