Jordan's Change Day
Salma Jaouni Araj, CEO, Heallth Care Accreditation Council (HCAC), Jordan
Since 2013, HCAC has been implementing an annual Change Day Initiative to empower healthcare professionals to take initiative and act on improving quality and patient safety. This has been happening under the Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al-Hussein.
In 2019, HCAC publically declared its support of the WPSD by linking their activities so they are complementary, and they executed their 6th annual “Change Day Campaign” on the same day.
In support of WPSD 2020, Jordan lit up prominent monuments and archaeological sites, not only in the city but across several governorates, instigating thoughts and appreciation towards healthcare worker safety and ultimately patient safety. The orange color shined brightly across public and private sector entities including: the infamous fantastic Crusader stronghold and later Mamluk fortress Karak Castle, Prince Hamza Hospital which is the second largest public hospital, Abdoun bridge, Le Royal hotel, Queen Alia Military Hospital, Al-Israa Private Sector Hospital, Arab Jordan Investment Bank, WHO Amman Office, and last but not least, the most famous archeological site in Amman, sitting on the city’s highest hill at 850m above sea level: Amman Citadel known as Jebel Al Qala’a.
But to do more, the Health Care Accreditation Council also ran its Change Day Initiative (http://hcac-changedayjo.com/en/content/change-day), calling on healthcare workers to pledge to undertake initiatives and activities that improve healthcare worker safety under four main categories:
Under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al Hussein more than 70,000 pledges were received and effectuated under the theme of “We are up for Change: for my safety and yours at all times”. Her Royal Highness was among the first pledgers promising to work on healthcare policy for the improvement and safeguarding of the safety of nurses and all healthcare workers. She was joined by prominent and key decision-makers with their pledges, including but not limited to His Excellency Minister of Health, Director General of the Royal Medical Military Services, Director of the Private Hospital Association, former minister, parliamentarians and members of the senate.
