WELLBEING

Eliza - Lady and the Tramp

Check out this Raising Learners Podcast, offered in partnership with the DET. In particular, the episode dated Sep 8 ‘Boredom: helping children make the most of it’ might be of particular interest as we enter the holidays.

Looking for inspiration for the holidays for your child? Here’s some advice from our BBPS students:

  • Plan virtual day trips: e.g. go to the zoo one day – on that day, watch a live feed, create lego enclosures, do craft related to animals, have a picnic lunch, and get an ice-cream!
  • Everyone in your house has to teach everyone else a different skill, like juggling or origami
  • Set up a tournament for your favourite sport, e.g. table tennis or basketball
  • Write a play, practise it and have a premiere one night – don’t forget to make tickets and set up the living room like a theatre. It could even be a puppet show.
  • Try to talk to a different friend every day
  • Have a pyjama movie day, and watch movies ALL day in your pyjamas ( Try The Goonies, ET, The Sound of Music or an Australian Classic, The Man from Snowy River).
  • Have a theme night, like a Mexican fiesta, and dress up, eat and dance to music.

Talking to your child during coronavirus – Key messages from a DET Resource: Talking to your child during coronavirus. Please reach out if you’d like support in this area:

  • Don’t be afraid to discuss COVID-19 (and the changing restrictions) with your child – stick to the facts.
  • Be guided by your child – model optimism and positivity
  • Stick to a routine – even in the holidays!
  • Close conversations with care
  • Remember to look after yourself

Wellbeing Activities – a fantastic DET resource to support your child with:

  • Understanding emotions
  • Personal strengths
  • Positive coping
  • Problem solving
  • Stress management
  • Help seeking

We recommend having a look at these, particular in the areas that you notice your child is most struggling with during this current climate. You might notice some similarities between these activities that you can do at home with your child and the Social and Emotional program we continue to use in our virtual classroom through our use of the Respectful Relationships curriculum and The Resilience Project resources.
