Year 3 - Year 5 News

Weeks 3 and 4 have already passed, it is hard to believe how fast the term is going.

Our writing focus is 'recount' and across Years 3-5 the standard of drafting and planning is most impressive and I am greatly enjoying the variety of recounts, from factual to narrative.   Having a consistent approach to writing across the school supports students to explore genre types and methods of writing in a more complex way.   It also supports our teachers in their planning and differentiation to meet our student's individual needs.

In Maths, students are building their knowledge and skills in using multiple strategies and reasoning through problems that have more than one answer.  When we use open-ended problems we are asking our students to think at higher levels.  An example of this may look like:

Which number is the odd one out  16, 25, 27, 61?

Stage 1 of the garden area has been completed and whilst the gates are not yet open, many classes have taken the opportunity to visit the space during the day.   Stage 2 includes artificial turf spanning across the majority of the area and will hopefully be completed before the end of the term.   Below are some of our Year 5 students exploring the space.

Congratulations to all parents, staff and students for embracing our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.  I have had to stock up on my froggy dollars due to the many students displaying our values to a high standard.

Looking ahead to the next fortnight, it is certainly shaping up to be another busy term with learning, student assessment and reporting to be completed, not to mention the end of term fun and celebrations.

Until next time,

Jane King
