Year Prep - Year 2

Assistant Principal's Report

Junior School News

Hello and welcome back to Week Four!

What a busy period these past few weeks have been at Pakenham Springs.  We have seen Stage One of our garden construction completed and the temporary fencing come down, our Step-into-Prep sessions have continued to run, our Early Years Evaluations have commenced with our 2020 Preppies as well as incursions and excursions running in different year levels.

Our Preps this week have been to the Casey Safety Village learning about bike and pedestrian safety as well as fire safety within the home.  From all reports, a great time was had by all and the students found the experience to be very informative.  In coming weeks too they will, along with all other year levels, complete a unit of work on sun and water safety which is particularly important as the weather starts to warm up and the beaches and swimming pools become increasingly popular.

Since writing last, the Year Ones have also attended their Coal Creek excursion to learn about the history and how our day-to-day lives have changed over time.  Speaking with the students, they all enjoyed their visit to the old schoolhouse and learning about what school was like 100 years ago, with limited resources and a cane for students who misbehaved!  Learning about recreation and the types of games that people played was also fascinating, with many finding it hard to imagine a time without the technologies we have readily available today!

Year Two students have also been very lucky, having participated in a science incursion last week with many fun experiments to complete, linking with their inquiry topic at the moment.  Again, the feedback was really positive and the students seemed to really enjoy the day.  Having been in classes lately, I have noticed how much students are enjoying the topic, completing several experiments in class themselves and learning about the difference between physical reactions and chemical reactions.  Be sure to ask your children what these differences are!

Teachers too are very busy at the moment, completing assessments, writing student reports and planning for 2020.   It's hard to believe that there are only 7 weeks left of 2019!   We have a number of fun and exciting events coming up in that time so please make sure to check our calendar so that you are aware of these as well as other important dates.

Until next time, take care.

Regards
