Learning in M30

Middle School M30 Watson/Swan is sharing the learning taking place in their class…

M30 has been working hard in all areas of our learning this term.

Our Writing has seen us focusing upon recount structures including sizzling starts, chronological order, correct tense, time connectives, paragraphing and interesting content.  Within our Reading we have had a focus upon figurative language, author’s purpose, finding the main idea and summarising what we have read.  In Numeracy we have been learning about fractions and decimals; with the students learning to investigate equivalent fractions, count by fractions (including mixed number and improper fractions), recognise decimals between one and zero and convert fractions into decimals.

Last but not least, our Inquiry focus this term is ‘War on Waste’...

M30 has particularly enjoyed our Inquiry investigations, with the students taking a deep interest in using sustainable resources to power vehicles.  Due to this interest, M30 followed a student-led Inquiry cycle, whereby the students have researched, brainstormed, planned, constructed and began to evaluate models of their wonderings and theories.

There has been so much learning occurring within Inquiry!  The students have needed to use higher order thinking to problem solve, collaborative skills to work within their chosen groupings, strong creativity to design a workable model and resilience to keep trying when initial plans did not work as hoped.  Here are some thoughts from a few of M30’s students about our Inquiry Cycle:
