Principal's Report

Kindergarten - Prep Transition

Well done to our Prep team (both campuses) who did an excellent job with the 1st week of Pre-Schooler Program sessions.  We had close to 80 students attend at Buninyong and 8 at Scotsburn and lots of parents stayed to mingle and chat with other parents.  Our kinder students settled in beautifully, suggesting they will all be keen to return for the remaining sessions.  As always, we use some of our grade 5 or 6 students to help out with Pre-Schooler Program sessions and last week’s helpers were brilliant.

Uniform Survey

Parents are reminded that they are invited to complete the uniform survey available through Compass.  Parents received a notification last Tuesday afternoon containing a link to the survey.  The survey closes on Friday afternoon (Oct 18), after which our Uniform Sub-Committee will collate the responses, discuss these at our next PLP meeting and then make recommendations to School Council.  So if you’d like to contribute to this process, complete the survey before it closes on Friday afternoon.

Parent Involvement in Strategic Planning

We are now in the midst of writing a new Strategic Plan following the School Review we completed in term 2.  We have established 3 working parties to undertake this work, the focus for these being:

  • Student Learning
  • Student Engagement
  • Community Engagement

Each of these working parties will be getting together for a half day in the coming few weeks to commence their work.  If you would like to be part of one of these working parties, please give me a call.

ORGANISING CLASSES FOR 2020

Term 4 is slipping by and next month the process of organising students into classes for next year will begin.  If there are significant issues we need to be aware of when allocating your child to a class, please make sure they have been made known to Bernie, Dave or Scott by Monday, November 11th.   Teachers are meeting soon after to begin sorting children into classes.

It is not our intention to provide parents with the opportunity to select a teacher of choice.  We have developed a very strong teaching team and parents can be confident the needs of their child will be met by any member of our team.

Developing well-balanced classes is best for everyone and that can be made difficult if there are large numbers of requests – as such, it is important that  placement requests be founded on significant reasons and not related to specific teachers.

We try to accommodate parent requests with regard to student placements, but you will understand this is not always possible.

It is also important when we come to organise classes that we know of students who will not be at our school next year. If your family is moving on, please let us know as soon as possible.
