Kitchen and Garden News

 

 

Whilst students and teachers enjoyed a much needed term break, the talented maintenance team was busy designing building us a beautiful kitchen. 

 

 

Thank you Peter and Jack, the kitchen looks fantastic! It has been a long time coming and the SAKG Team is very excited to begin setting it up ready for cooking.

 

We are looking forward to making the space colourful, functional and welcoming for everyone, there will be a harvest table to feature fresh ingredients from the garden.

 

 

In Ms Crossman’s absence during Weeks 1&2, Year 3 students participated in introduction into cooking and gardening activities where rules and expectations were established and groups created for efficient teamwork. We also have several parents offering to volunteer from each class, which will help students cook and garden safely. If you are interested in helping but not made contact with the SAKG Team or your child’s home group teacher, please do so.

 

 

In weeks 3&4, students will be making pizza and a green tossed salad. 3C & 3D loved it. Here’s a recipe to try at home.

Yogurt Pizza Dough 

Ingredients

1 cup self-raising flour

¼ teaspoon salt

¼ cup greek-style yogurt

 

Method

1. Preheat oven to 250◦C

2. Combine flour, salt and yogurt in a bowl until a soft dough forms. Add more yogurt if the dough is too       dry but don’t knead the dough or the pizza will be tough.

3. Line baking tray with baking paper.

4. Scrape dough onto baking tray lined with baking paper.

5. Using the tips of fingers to push dough to form a round and 5 mm base. Make sure there are no holes.

6. Brush dough with olive oil or top with tomato sauce and toppings.

7. Cook for about 15 minutes.

8. Remove trays from oven and allow to cool for about 5 minutes.

9. Slide each pizza onto the chopping board.

 

Toppings suggestions:

  • 1 cup cauliflower, 1 red onion, ½ cup parsley leaves, 2tbls olive oil, 1 cup cheese
  • 1 potato sliced, 1 red onion, ½ cup parsley leaves, 2 tbls olive oil, 1 cup cheese
  • ½ zucchini, ¼ capsicum, ½ cup tomato sauce, ½ c herbs, 1 cup cheese
