Music Gala

On Wednesday June 20, the Music Department held the annual Music Gala Concert. Over 150 of Brentwood’s finest young musicians took to the stage and once again demonstrated the diverse range and depth of musical talent we have at Brentwood. For the students, the concert was the culmination of months of lessons, ensemble rehearsals and countless hours practicing at home perfecting their parts for this very special occasion. The audience was treated to a wide array of wonderful music, all of which was performed to an exceedingly high standard by the talented bunch of music students, some of whom were performing for the very first time.

The concert began with a collaborative piece that saw the students from the Senior Concert Band, String Ensemble and Choir all joining together to perform a song entitled ‘Here You Lie’ by Melbourne based composer, Mark Puddy. From then on it was a musical journey across a number of musical styles and genres with each performance impressing and entertaining the large audience made up of family, friends and Brentwood staff.

Other highlights included outstanding solo performances from Alice Arakane (Violin), Louis Cameron (Guitar), Kirsten Thomas (Piano) and Maddy Eldridge (Voice), as well as a sneak peak performance from our upcoming production of In The Heights. The night was brought to a close with a bang as the Jazz Band teamed up with the Choir and performing the inspirational anthem, ‘This is Me’.

The concert was a huge success with all the students’ enjoying their performance experience with many keen to do it all again! Thanks to the Music Teaching team (Ann-Marie Mackay, Felicity Eastwood, Glenda Hanslow, Ursula Cettolin, Sue Cook, Rennata Morrison, Damon Key, Troy Male and Nick Milosevic) for all the hard work that was put into preparing the students for the concert as well as a big thank-you to all members of the school community who attended the concert.
