Intermediate Girls Softball

Brentwood Intermediate Girls Softball Team are Runners-up State Champions.

Congratulations to all girls involved throughout the Monash, EMR and State Rounds. On Thursday 31 May, we played the State Round at Jells Park. We played three games finishing on top in Pool A, before playing the Final against the Winner of Pool B. In all three of our Pool matches, we were convincing and deserving winners, outclassing our opposition and winning by the Mercy Rule in all games.

Mac Robertson High was our first game, winning 17-0. Chairo Christian College, Drouin, our second game, winning 15-0. Our third game was Glen Eira, winning 13-3.

We knew we had strong competition in the final with Montmorency, previous State Finalists. We knew we had to be switched-on and go out there giving it our best shot and that is what the girls did! We batted first, displaying hard hitting followed by clever base running, giving us four runs on the board. Montmorency came out firing. A home run with loaded bases meant that at even innings, they held a 5-4 lead. It was neck and neck from then on, with a game that had pressure, awesome batting and base-running and concentration required in every position on the field.  Lili Cavanagh hit a home run to put us back even in the third innings. Unfortunately, we didn’t have runners on base to score them home. Team work and leadership were paramount from both teams.  Everything you want from a Final! To Montmorency’s credit, they were crowned State Champions winning 8-7 in a nail-biter!

Congratulations to our team.  Their effort, sportsmanship and overall manner in which they conducted themselves throughout the day, is a credit to them.  I am very proud of this group.

Year 7 Girls Netball

Brentwood had two Year 7 Girls Netball Teams compete in the Monash Round on Wednesday 13 June.

After playing three games during the rounds, both our teams played in the final of their section.

Our Girls ‘A’ team were undefeated all day, with only having 10 goals shot against them, including the final. Our Girls ‘B’ team, were strong all day, conceding less than 32 goals against them during the days play.

Both teams showed class, teamwork and consistent effort on the court all day and should be proud of their achievements.  Brentwood ‘B’ team won their final outclassing Wheelers Hill 17-2. Brentwood ‘A’ team outplayed Wheelers Hill also, 31-2 and will advance to the next round, EMR, on Wednesday 8 August at Jells Park.

Congratulations Brentwood Year 7 Netball Teams. I would also like to thank our Student Coaches who have done a fantastic job at weekly trainings and coached both teams on the day.
