Home Learning Program

The Home Learning program continues for all students. Assessment in Personal Development Skills has had to be adapted to remote learning tasks. For example, with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, most of the voluntary work involves physically helping in the community. This term, students have still been able to do that, but it has involved different ways to volunteer, such as helping to shop for the isolated people in the community; sewing blankets for the needy or those in hospital, making wheat bags, beeswax wraps, pouches for injured animals, and practical face masks for the community.

Another task for PDS has been the ‘Isolation Projects’ where students are to document and record practical tasks and activities that they undertake around the home. Projects fit into one of the following categories from the VCAL curriculum and must be covered: resilience, self-esteem and efficacy; health and wellbeing; family and social responsibilities; environmental responsibilities; and valuing participation in a democratic society.
