Year 10 Students

This week Careers staff were very excited to deliver the Morrisby Profile to the Year 10 students. Although this is new to Aitken, it is not a new program and has been helping students with their decision making for more than 60 years. For a student, deciding what they want to do after leaving school is not easy. Understanding the options available is challenging, as is working out what the student is best suited to and how they can achieve their goals. Morrisby aims to inspire and provide some guidance on how to choose a pathway and possible study options.

Morrisby can help students make better choices by providing objective and relevant information about the student and the opportunities available. Year 10 students are a "work in progress". Morrisby helps them to recognise where they are now and what their natural inclinations in terms of skills, abilities, interests and preferences might be. It is designed to showcase their talents. Morrisby provides objective data about the student and their strengths and heightens their awareness of self to assist with making informed decisions about study pathways and career opportunities. In the short term, these decisions relate to choosing the VCE or VCAL program for 2021 and the subjects and/or trade areas which may be of interest. Some students even find the results revelatory.

Also this week, we commenced Careers lessons during Life Skills classes. Careers staff will visit each Life Skills class twice, during which time the Morrisby Report will be discussed, resources for Careers research will be demonstrated, the VCE and VCAL will be unpacked and assistance with the decision making process all Year 10 students will undergo in the next few months will be provided.

Year 12 Students

We continue to offer Year 12 students the option of a careers counselling meeting via Zoom and have been delighted with the research our students are undertaking; future pathways are being contemplated and some very thoughtful decisions are being made.
