Message from the College Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last Tuesday we welcomed back our Prep - Year 2 students who have been learning remotely for the majority of this term. It was so beautiful to see the level of excitement from students, staff and parents, as 600 smiling little faces returned to school. By 9am all of our P-2 students were settled in their classes and our teachers were teaching our students the ‘new normal’ at school. This included:

  • Washing our hands and using hand sanitiser at the start and end of each sessions, prior to eating and before and after breaks.
  • Practicing good cough and sneeze hygiene.
  • Playing in designated areas.
  • Learning from the tables, not on the floor.
  • Practicing physical distancing wherever possible.

Our Prep - Year 2 parents have been wonderful in dropping their children off at the designated gate by 8:30am and our Prep - Year 2 students have been so independent, waving goodbye to their parent or carer and walking on their own to their classroom.  We had so many teachers comment on the amazing growth in our students since they last saw them, not only in regards to their learning but also their independence and confidence.

On behalf of all the staff at Tarneit P-9 College, we would like to extend a very big thank you to all our Prep - Year 2 parents and carers for their assistance over the last two weeks. It was a very smooth process and we couldn’t have done it without your support.  We have spent the two weeks practicing the pickup and drop off and refining our practices in preparation for our Year 3 - Year 9 students returning on Tuesday 9 June. In preparation for this, we ask that all families please note and make preparations for the below changes to our College practices:

  • Drop off times and gate locations:

Please note: if we all work together to arrive at these times and via these locations we will support over 2100 students and families to safely enter our school grounds and begin learning on time. We thank you in advance for your assistance with this.

  • Pick up times:
    • Prep - Year 2 picked up from designated locations at 3:00pm
    • Year 7 - Year 9 meet parents and carers outside the school gate at 3:10pm
    • Year 3 - Year 6 meet parents and carers outside the gates at 3:30pm
  • If you have children working across multiple timetables, we encourage you to discuss and identify a common meeting place for siblings within the school grounds (e.g. in front of the gym or at the Kindergarten gate) and a meeting place outside the school grounds with you or whoever is picking them up (e.g. in the neighbouring park, sports field or street).
  • If your child catches a bus home from school, please send a note and we will release your child in time to catch the required bus.

A reminder that Monday is the Queen’s Birthday Public holiday.

Enjoy the long weekend everyone and we look forward to seeing you next week.

Kind Regards,
