On Tuesday night the AGM of the Parents in Community Associaiton (PiC) was held.  We are very thankful to all those that attended and the Executive Team Members that were elected are as follows:

Chairperson: Kate Gill

Vice Chairperson: Linda Poole

Treasurer: remains vacant

Secretary: Angela Parsons

Executive Member: Amy Kamphuis

Executive Member: Anne Rixon

Following this, we had a General Meeting where it was confirmed that our Board Representatives for 2020 are Teenette van Dyk and Margaret Dingemanse.  We warmly welcome them to our meetings.

I am also pleased to confirm our support to fund the immediate replacement of Basketball Backboards to the value of $2000 and the creation of two Outdoor Basketball Practice Pads to the value of $10,000. Our previously pledged sum of $70,000 toward the MAJOR PROJECT – Middle/Senior Recreation space & equipment has been set aside and is available to LCS when required.

A reminder that all members of LCS are considered members of the Parents in Community Association and I strongly encourage you to attend our next meeting and get involved.   We have a heart for supporting and building our school community and are always encouraged by new faces and new ideas.  So keep Tuesday 28th July @ 7.30pm free and aim to attend our next meeting in our staff room.

PiC Chairperson report

The second half of 2019 was business as usual for the Parents and Friends Association. The Twilight Fair was held in November and the school year ended without incident.

Whilst the 2020 school year started with a need to establish a handover team for the Oliebollen and Croquettes Stall and clarify the timing and structure of the Twilight Fair, the onset of Covid-19 restrictions swiftly altered how our children ‘did school’ as well as how we lived, worked and connected. Unfortunately Agfest 2020 did not proceed for LCS despite a positive response from the school community to assist with the running and management of the stall.

The support from the School Board to focus on community and less on fundraising was appreciated and paved the way for a name change. The Parents and Friends Association has been replaced by Parents in Community Association. This was done to draw attention to our key purpose and to ensure our name aligned with our desire to build strong connections within our school community.  Further discussions are required in this regard, as well as champions to step forward with ideas and nurture these ideas to fruition.

The welcome BBQ’s for Kinder and Year 7 families held during Term 1 were well received. They are the initiative of Tanya Socorro and aligned so well with our desire to build community. Tanya, we are so very grateful for all the work you do behind the scenes to support LCS and the Parents in Community Association, you are a champion.

Nearly all executive positions are open for re-election this AGM. A huge thank you to Barbara Knight for being our Treasurer since 2016. You have done an amazing job Barb and we will miss you. Rachelle Hawkins is also stepping down as Secretary. We thank you so much Rachelle for your amazing ability to juggle so many different pies. The support you have provided has been very much appreciated. Thank you Amy Kamphuis and Angela Parsons for being Executive Members and providing valued support and wisdom along with Barbara, Rachelle and Adrian Bosker.

I appreciate and thank you all for supporting the Parents In Community Association. I look forward to embracing the opportunities that lie ahead for us all to support each other and our wider school community.
