BPS Grounds and
Campus Update: Rubbish
By Assistant Principal Joel Snowden
Last week we shared with you our ‘While you were away’ article that introduced our new groundsperson, Will Radas. Will has been working really hard to improve the look of our grounds by keeping the tanbark off surfaces, keeping the Autumn leaves under control, removing weeds, cleaning drains and lots of other jobs. This week we would like to share some information regarding taking steps towards a rubbish free campus.
Rubbish Free Campus - Well done Grade Prep to 2!
We are approaching the end of our second week of face to face learning with students in Grade Prep to 2. We have noticed that there is no rubbish on the campus. Congratulations students in Grade Prep to 2 for being responsible for keeping our campus clean and rubbish free! It will be an expectation that it remains like this.
See below some reminders and new initiatives to support this.
Minimising wrappers brought to school
As we move to all students being on-site next week, we remind our community to consider as many ‘nude food’ options as they can for lunchboxes. Nude food is the minimising of single-use packaging in lunch boxes.
Working together with Fun Fresh Foods
We have been working with Fun Fresh Food to think about ways we can reduce the amount of packaging being used. Their staff is keen to support our school with initiatives. When Fun Fresh Food returns for business the following will be in place:
Pick-up or Play-on
It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure the campus remains rubbish free. When all students return we will be implementing a ‘Pick-up or Play-on’ initiative. Supported by our student leaders, there will be checks of the yard during recess and lunch. If there is visible rubbish in the yard, ‘Pick-up’ will be called which means recess or lunch will be shortened and everyone will clean up the rubbish. If a check reveals the campus is rubbish free, students will ‘Play-on’ and enjoy the full recess and lunchtime. We believe this initiative of students using their break time to clean will be a reminder that it is their responsibility to clean the yard. It also means learning time will not be interrupted with yard cleanups.
