“Ophelia”

“Ophelia” is my younger sister who I painted to explore the emotion that can be captured within a single facial expression. I was also fascinated with the sense of weakness that comes with the idea that our facial expressions cannot always be controlled. I used a lot of detail to place emphasis on the emotion in her face and I also emphasised her features with harsh shadows to provide contrast. The darker shadows around the painting represent the looming vulnerability of emotional expression.
