Community

The teachers have been hard at work preparing the teaching and learning for Term 3. We have spent time unpacking what the students have learnt over Term 2 and what needs to be taught next. One of the main components of our planning is discussing and preparing for the Integrated Inquiry units.

At Corpus Christi, we plan our Integrated Inquiry learning around four big concepts. These are:

  • Community - organisation and identity
  • Wellbeing - of the learner and of the person
  • Environment and Sustainability
  • Innovation - product innovation and scientific innovation

For Term 3, all the learning communities have chosen to focus on Community.

This will involve the children learning about big questions such as:

Year Prep, 1 and 2

  • What is my personal and family history?
  • How has family life changed or remained the same over time?
  • What remains of the past are important to the local community? Why?
  • How are we the same and different?

Year 3 and 4

  • How can local government contribute to community life?
  • Why do we make rules and laws and why are they important?
  • How has my identity been shaped by the groups to which I belong?

Year 5 and 6

  • What is democracy in Australia and why is voting in a democracy important?
  • What are the roles and responsibilities of the different levels of government in Australia?
  • How are laws developed and enforced in Australia?
  • How and why do people participate in groups to achieve shared goals?
