Donations To Tanzania
During the Term 2 school holidays, the Sutton family travelled to Tanzania in East Africa with their luggage filled to the brim with donations from the Altona College and Williamstown Only About Children Communities. There was a collection of exercise books, pens, pencils, glue sticks, t-shirts, toys, and story books, the items have been donated to Mysigio Primary School and Mateves Secondary School. The donations will go a long way to assisting in providing education to the children of these communities.
The Sutton family would like to thank the above communities for assisting a 7-year-old’s idea to come true – Zachary has seen how we can help others from across the globe.
Walk A Mile In My Shoes
Altona College would like to extend a huge thank you to Justine Brogna, Director/Founder of Walk A Mile In My Shoes for a $2500 donation to help resource our Wellbeing Space.
Justine, along with committee members Richard Kostraby and Practice Manger Katrina Mintoff, attended our end-of-term assembly to present us with their donation.
Walk a Mile In My Shoes is a TreeHaus charity project to awareness and funds for mental health. Through organising the 2022 event, Justine and her team raised significant funds which the charity is now donating back to the local community, aiming to reduce the stigma around mental health and increase the acceptance of diversity.
We look forward to working with our students to gather their ideas on possible ways we can use this donation to future enhance our wellbeing areas around the school.
Thank you again to Justine and the Walk A Mile In My Shoes charity.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge
Altona College is excited to be participating in the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge.
The PRC is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 8 September 2023. The challenge offers a range of exciting features including:
- access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
- a modern user-friendly interface
- rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
- the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review.
The PRC is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
