Table Tennis - Mr Jay Baker

Our Senior Boys and Senior Girls Table Tennis teams competed in the State Finals at MSAC on Wednesday, August 9th. After an extensive lead-in period and many lunchtime trainings, our students stepped up to the challenge which was significant as most teams had players that had represented Victoria at the National titles.

The boys played Girton Grammar in Round 1 and pushed them right to the edge narrowly losing in the last doubles game. Augustin Masson was the star of the show with some high-level Table Tennis. In the following two matches against East Doncaster and Southern Cross Grammar, we were outclassed by superior opponents. To the boys credit they stuck to the task and had fun in the process.

The Girls also played Girton Grammar in their first match and won in a close contest with Poppy Duff leading the way with aggressive shot-making. It was really pleasing to see the girls challenge themselves and learn a lot about the game throughout the day. They were beaten in the final two matches against Suzanne Cory High School and Ringwood Secondary College.

Congratulations to all the players as it is a significant achievement to reach the State Finals and also to Julia Leslie who gave many lunchtimes to assist with training.

SSV Table Tennis - Mrs. Julia Leslie

The SSV Junior Boys & Girls and Intermediate Girls Table Tennis teams travelled to Wonthaggi yesterday to compete in the South Gippsland Regional league. The Year 8 Boys and Intermediate teams played in Leongatha. The teams played competitively and well. There were some great rallies. Most importantly the students represented Mary MacKillop College well with their good sportsmanship and the positive way in which they interacted with students from other schools. Our Year 7 boys and Year 8 girls won their sections. They will compete next at the regional level. Congratulations to Julian Aeschlimann, Archie Dynes, Lincoln Newton, Peter Evangelista Ford, Belamy Murfin-Barden, Bella Piasente, Willow McGannon, Claudia Donohue, Claudia Croatto and Alanah Maynard. We wish them well. Special thanks to Inay Chol, Elena Dimopoulos, Holly Brown and Clara Wilson for playing in the intermediate section.
