A Message from David & Cam...

It has been another great fortnight of learning at AGPS. We are always so impressed with the effort and engagement of all students during class and we love hearing all about the interesting things that they are learning.

In line with our focus on practising gratitude, we would like to express our thanks to all our families for supporting us by getting the students to school on time and instilling a positive attitude towards their learning. It is a joy to see students entering the school grounds with a spring in their step and a smile and a wave ready for a great day - thanks!

100 Days of School!

It is always such a joyous occasion when the preps reach 100 days of school. All year they have been counting the days and getting increasingly excited about the 100 days celebration that will come. Finally, the day arrived and it was so nice seeing the excited smiles and wonderful 100-themed costumes as the preppies entered the school last Wednesday.

The whole day was filled with a range of fun activities, games and celebrations! We are so proud of the prep students and all that they have achieved in their first 100 days of school. They are a fantastic group of students who are all like KEFAR!

Congratulations preps (and Prep Teachers and ES)!!

Principals' day

Last Friday was Principals' Day and we were so thankful for the kind words, gifts and mound of really creative and thoughtful cards and books that were made for us. The level of effort that the students and staff put in for us was incredibly touching. We love what we do, love being a part of this wonderful school and feel so grateful and privileged to be able to work with all of our special young people every day.

Some things we learnt about ourselves when reading the cards/books:

  • Cam is handsome
  • Cam has three hot chocolates before school and then has a sleep in his office
  • Cam’s jolly attitude rebounds onto me like a ray of sunshine (how cute is that!)
  • Cam makes pancakes for breakfast and then spills coffee in the staffroom
  • David eats cheese in bed while watching football
  • David kicks a football so high that it goes out of the Earth's atmosphere
  • David is the smartest giant in AGPS

And finally, our very talented and creative school captains made this wonderful video to share at our assembly:

Book Week

Book Week is fast approaching. Our Book Week will be held between the 4th and 8th of September with our Book Week dress up and parade on the morning of the 8th. This is always a fun event and we love seeing the creativity on display with all the costumes.

Writing Competition

To further encourage our budding authors and illustrators we are launching a new competition called 'Battle of the Books' where we challenge students to create their own picture storybook. Our library leaders and school captains will then shortlist and select winners from across the school to have their books published and added to our school library. Our student leaders are busy working on the details of this new competition and will send out information via Seesaw soon.

Bunnings BBQ

A huge THANK YOU to all those that volunteered and supported our Bunnings BBQ last weekend. The day was a great success and we raised close to $2000!

Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents / caregivers / guardians think of our school. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open until Friday 8 September 2023.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

It is a really important data set for us as we plan for further improvements to our school. The survey was completed by a large percentage of parents and carers last year and all of that data was used when planning our Annual Implementation Plan.

Information about this survey was sent via Compass and we encourage as many people as possible to take the time to respond.

Buildings and Grounds Updates

Tree Planting Day

  • We have been fortunate enough to receive two new lots of trees through ResourceSmart and Hobsons Bay to be planted on our school grounds. This is part of the 'More Trees for a cooler, greener west' program and will help to ensure our grounds are green for the future. A tree planting day is scheduled for 21st of August and we would love volunteers to help out on the day.

Inclusive School Fund

  • The project is almost complete. Area 1 (sensory garden and nature play) is complete and will become accessible today! Area 2 (ship playground) has some further work to be done as there was an error in the installation of one section. This will be rectified soon and then that playground will be open for all to enjoy.

Thank you all for another wonderful fortnight. We hope you all have a great weekend and are looking forward to seeing the Matildas getting the job done on Saturday night!

Take care,

David & Cam
