ICAS

ICAS Assessments are beginning this week at Wembley, with students sitting the Digital Technologies test.

Next week, we will continue with the ICAS English tests, while the ICAS Maths tests will be conducted in Week 8 (August 28 to September 1). More specific details of each test will be distributed at the beginning of the sitting window week.

We wish all of our students who are participating in ICAS assessments in the next few weeks the best of luck.

Camps, Excursions and Incursions

YEAR 2 CAMP

Last week the Year 2 students went on their very first school camp to Camp Sunnystones in Merrimu. Students completed a 2 hour bush walk in to camp before completing a range of activity rotations such as bush hut building, archery, low ropes course, bush cooking, rock painting and clay modelling. The highlight for many was the night walk and campfire, where many marshmallows were roasted!

All students demonstrated the Wembley values throughout the camp, respectfully interacting with camp staff and following expectations.

Thanks to all of the parent helpers and staff who attended camp.

The students created camp diaries, used to express their pre-camp feelings and to predict what their experiences would be like. After an unforgettable experience, the students used their diaries to reflect on their adventures and the challenges they faced.

Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Wembley Primary School is excited to be participating again this year. The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:

  • access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
  • a modern user-friendly interface
  • rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
  • the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 8 September 2023.

Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.

To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklist and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: https://www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge.  Individual student logins will be provided to students via letter this week, therefore please keep an eye out for them in their bags.

Please direct any queries to this year’s PRC coordinator, Christine Kane.

Happy Reading!
