2023-24 Vex Robotics
The 2023-24 Vex robotics season is underway with Copperfield competing with 3 teams (1 from each campus) in the VRC and 2 Teams (1 from each of SYD and KP) in the IQ sections.
The first round was in Templestowe and the 2nd in Clyde North with the students being at school for a 6.30am departure and returning at approx. 5:30pm.
On arrival the Teams find and setup their pit area, make final adjustments to their robots and then attend the drivers meeting. Throughout the day team members need to keep a watchful eye on the draw, record their own and other teams performance to formulate strategy and communicate with alliance partners to have the best chance to win a game. The teams participate in an interview/presentation to judges of their robot and engineering workbook.
Our Del VRC team has been very competitive in both rounds finishing the qualifying rounds ranked 2nd and 1st and achieving the first Australian team to hang off the bar and the team to achieve the highest hang. There has been a lot of talk within the competitors about their performance and the best strategy to compete against them. Unfortunately, they have been knocked out in both the finals by very small margins.
Our Syd VRC team has made the biggest improvement going from being ranked 21st in the first round to being ranked 2nd in the next round. They have developed some excellent team communication skills and improved their robot to become very competitive. Like our DEL team they also were knocked out in the finals by a small margin.
Our IQ Teams have been very competitive having both made the finals in the 1st round and the SYD in the 2nd round. Our KP team just missed the finals in the 2nd Round.
This year’s competition has seen a return to large numbers of competitors with many schools returning to competitions for the first time since covid.
We would like to thank Mr Stirkul and Mr Breen for the opportunities they are creating for the students involved.
