 KINDERGARTEN BILBIES & ROSELLAS

Fine motor fun! During term 3 our Friday's are dedicated to fine motor activities and games.  Fine motor skills allow young children to develop muscles that will assist them with writing, cutting and hand manipulation. The children love the peg boards, playdough, kinetic sand, threading and painting!

In Religious Education, we have been learning about God's oceans and rivers. The children have had the opportunity to explore ocean creatures, sensory play, and Bible stories. We asked lots of ‘I Wonder’ questions and spent time researching our questions in our prayer circles.

We have also introduced our Prayer Bear’s. Each week Prayer Bear’s go home with someone who demonstrates our school values throughout the week and does ‘Something Beautiful for God’.

During Maths the children have been working with numbers to 10. We have been completing lots of fun activities that help us to recognise, subitise and order numbers to 10! We have all been working extremely hard and our hard work is paying off.

In Talk for Writing, we have been retelling and innovating Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell.  After learning about all the different animals sent by the Zoo, our little learners explored the different animals from around the World. We looked at ocean animals, jungle animals, safari animals and little creatures from the garden. We embedded Aboriginal perspectives by reading ‘How the Birds got their Colours’ and ‘The Rainbow Serpent’.

Finally, we have been practising for the upcoming Kindy Sports Carnival. Making sure we move our arms and lift our knees when we run so we can run as fast as a superhero!

YEAR 3 - MAGPIES & NUMBATS

This term in Year Three we are adventuring around the world!

Our class novel is, ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ by Michael Morpurgo. It is a tale of a young boy is travelling with his parents around the world when both he and is dog, Stella are swept overboard. They end up stranded on an island where they meet Kensuke a Japanese man who has been there alone for many years.

In Religious Education, we are connecting our appreciation of the world to our unit of prayer. We have been looking at how God is speaking to us through the beauty of creation and in the everyday good works of people.

In English, we are studying the novel, learning new words and writing imagined diary adventures. In Geography, we are learning about significant natural wonders in our country and those of our neighbouring countries. (Which is helping us with our diary writing!).

In Mathematics we have been having a lot of fun finding out interesting facts about different animals e.g. tongue length and brain weight and then using this information to create data displays. We have also been learning the game of Numero which is great for our mental arithmetic and is fantastic fun too!

We have been learning so much including coding, debugging, learning about protective behavious and much more. We are excited to see what happens to Michael, the main character from ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ as we know already that he is returned to his family but don’t yet know how.
