Connect: Year 1
It was lovely to have so many families visiting during the Wellbeing Open Afternoon last week! The students were so excited to show off their classrooms and experience a lesson together. It was a great opportunity to share ideas on what we can do if we are afraid. We look forward to you coming to explore during our Science Fair!

The Next Fortnight of Learning
Literacy
Students are loving our current mentor text of The Gruffalo. While exploring this text students will practice retelling and summarising events in the story. They will identify repetition in the book, discuss why it is used and practice creating their own short text.
Our phonics focus for the week has been ow as in brown cow and ou as in ouch! Next weeks phonics focus will be oi as in oink oink and oy as in Foy's jelly joys. We will continue to review the sounds taught previously.
Maths
In Maths we have been investigating time and duration. The students are learning the days of the week and thinking about how long different tasks take, for example what takes longer 10 star jumps or eating an apple? Next week we will look at mapping and directions and relate this to our mentor text 'The Gruffalo'. Does your child know their left from their right?
Inquiry
The focus for our inquiry unit this term is Materials that Change Shape. Students are exploring the actions of bending, stretching, twisting, rolling and squeezing. It has been fun practicing these changes with lolly snakes, play-doh, paper and yoga.
Wellbeing
Our Term 3 topic for Resilience Rights and Respectful Relationships is Positive Coping. Throughout the term students will engage in activities that assist them to reflect on their emotional responses, describe ways to express emotions in a healthy manner and practice techniques to deal with feelings of fear, frustration and anger. Learning a range of positive coping skills will enable students to better navigate future changes and challenges.
PJ Day
Everyone looked extra warm for PJ day! It was fantastic to see so many students and teachers joining in the fun and raising money for a good cause.
