Faith at St Joseph's...

This week our online and classroom prayers focus on Christian Meditation.

Christian meditation “engages thought, imagination, emotion, and desire” in prayer. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2708)
It is also known as mental prayer. Students learn topractice meditation by focusing his or her mind on a particular object, thought or activity to achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm state. Meditation may be used to reduce stress and anxiety. It may be done while sitting, repeating a mantra, listening to a story or music and closing the eyes in a quiet environment.
Christian Meditation gives the opportunity to go “beyond thought’ into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness.
Christian meditation goes further by leading one to contemplation of God and spending time with Him in a special way.
This now becomes a prayer, because, as it involves communication with God by sensing his very presence.
When this meditation or contemplation with God is regular it allows the students to start to build a relationship with God.
Fr. Micheal explains it very well in his video this week.
Fr. Michael is visiting each of the learning communities in the next 2 weeks. Father will lead a short liturgy with the children and then discuss ways they have been reaching out to others in our community. Our recent online prayers have focussed on how we can Be of Service to others in our World. His liturgy is called We are Christ’s Body and the students will watch a video with the prayer of St. Theresa.
