The Talk Around ... TPS

New Foundation Students 2021

In light of latest COVID 19 relaxations we can now have some transition on site with the children.   This will take place on:

  • Wednesday 2nd of December 2.30 to 3.30pm
  • Tuesday 8th December 9.10-11am

To keep with COVID safe practices we are asking all kinder parents to come into the school via the kinder path to sign in and out your child.  Your child will then need to be left in the room with the other children, parents must then leave and come back in the same way to pick their child up and sign out.  We can’t wait to meet you all in person and see you at school.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.

Statewide Transition Day -8th December

Due to the nature of the changes this year to Statewide Transition our Year 6 students will not be attending transition at their secondary school on this day.  Alternate arrangements for visits have already been made by most secondary schools.

On the 8th December, students at Trafalgar Primary School in Foundation to Year 5 will be participating in internal transition activities.  Current kinder children that will be attending Trafalgar Primary School in 2021 will also have an opportunity to attend for part of the day.

The purpose of the day is to let students know who their teacher will be, which room they will be in and better get to know their classmates for 2021 in order to assist with any anxieties and wellbeing issues that students may be experiencing.  Teachers will talk with students about the types of activities they are likely to participate in next year.  Students will look at the content covered in their new year level by exploring the work samples, anchor charts etc. in their new room.

In order to be able to facilitate an internal transition for our F-5 students, our Year 6's will be going offsite on an excursion.  This will be at no cost to parents with all expenses including transport covered by the school.

Specific information about your child's program on this day will be provided shortly.

Outside School Hours Care

Trafalgar Primary School is partnering with YMCA Children’s Programs to deliver Outside School Hours Care services that supports our school community.

The Y will commence management of these services in January 2021 when children return to school in Term 1.

Their services include:

·         Before and After School Program available daily during the school term.

·         Pupil free days available when school closes for staff development sessions.

·         School Holiday Program full days of care available outside the school term.

These services are an ideal solution for busy families, providing a fun, friendly and relaxed environment for children to grow and learn beyond the classroom.

A message from our Chromebook supplier, Edunet

Just a friendly reminder that our second order cut off day for Day 1, Term 1 delivery is approaching (3rd of December). Due to manufacturing constraints, we highly recommend parents get their orders in ASAP to allow as much time as possible should we need to order more stock.  We will be attempting to keep our ETA’s as up to date as possible on the portal so parents can be made aware of any delays on particular models.

Environmental Captains lead a soft plastic recycling initiative

At a recent assembly the Environmental Captains explained the new white bins in the staffroom and some of the classrooms.

This week we will start placing these bins in all the other classrooms.

Soft plastic recycling is for soft, scrunchable plastics. Basically, if you can scrunch it into a ball it can go in this bin.

Some examples of scrunchable plastics are:

•           Muesli bar wrappers

•           Chip packets

•           Plastic bags

•           Bread bags

•           Lolly bags or wrappers

•           Biscuit packets (wrapping only, not trays)

The items in these bins are collected and taken to a drop off point (Coles or Woolworths). They are then collected from these drop off points by the Redcycle Group, a Melbourne based consulting and recycling organisation.  These plastics are recycled into park benches, tables, bollards etc.

Posters and signs have been placed around the school to encourage students to be mindful of what they put in these bins. The system only works if we put the right stuff in. If non-scrunchable plastics are put in these bins then unfortunately we have to throw the whole lot in the general waste and our efforts to reduce landfill in this way is wasted.

We encourage parents to discuss this initiative with their children.  Thank you for your help with this. If students would like any further information, they can ask one of our Environment Captains or look at this website   https://www.redcycle.net.au/

Successful Grant Application

Our school has received a grant from the Australia-Indonesia BRIDGE School Partnerships Program to help support our Indonesian program.  Feedback from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade was that the grant application was highly ranked. Funds will provide laptops and technology to our sister school, Negeri Balang Baru 1 in Makassar Indonesia.  We plan to use this technology to create opportunities for our staff and students to communicate with each other.  This is an incredibly positive step towards building an authentic language experience for our students.   We thank our Indonesian Teacher Bu Staff for her work on this project assisted by Ms Carmody.  The school will now begin the process of purchasing equipment for our sister school.
