Year 5/6 News

Year 5/6 Olympics

What a fantastic week we have had in the Senior Area, with our children participating in our Year 5/6 Olympics. We realised that Japan couldn't host the event this year, so we decided to hold our own. 100 metres sprints, hurdles, 1km walk, discus, shotput and javelin, table tennis and chess have all been competed in, along with team events such as basketball, netball and volleyball. ALL students are to be commended on their performance and attitude towards the games. There have been many thrilling moments, such as the table tennis game between Joel Roney (Asia) and Oscar Azzarone (Europe), the basketball semi against Asia and Australia and the amazing performance by the Australian Wattles to defeat The European All Stars in the volleyball. In next week's newsletter, some of the competitors will share their highlights with you. Stay tuned!

Year 5 Yarning Conference

Last week the Year 5 students participated in the 3rd Darebin Council Yarning Conference, an initiative by our coucil to engage future leaders and to learn more about Kooire culture at a local level. Due to Covid, the students were unable to attend in person but joined 18 other primary schools in the area. Smoking ceremonies, Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Country ceremonies, dances, music and a Long Walk march were all part of the day's activities which the children enjoyed.
