God our Father, as we thank you for the blessings, we ask you to bless this Parish of yours, so that

we may love you more.

Encircle our families with your loving care.

Help parents to be good examples to their

children and our youth to grow in strength as good Christians.

To the sick grant health, to the aged bring serenity and to those in sorrow, joy.

May we grow stronger in faith and may

our love for one another become deeper

in our daily living.

We make this through the intercession of our Mother Mary. Amen

NEW - Restrictions

Still no changes to our restrictions but we are hopeful of some good news after 19th. October when our Premier makes his next announcement regarding

metropolitan and regional Victoria.

Outlined below are the modest changes to restrictions on churches.

Outside liturgies may be celebrated, attended by 1 minister and 10 participants. What this means for us

· Whilst Monsignor Peter is looking forward to getting back to regular participation in the mass, he has decided to wait a little longer in the hope that churches will be opened up in the next couple of weeks.

· Funerals may be celebrated with a maximum of 20 attendees (in additon to the celebrant and funeral staff).

· Weddings may be celebrated with 10 people in addition to the celebrant, bride & groom, 2 witnesses and 6 guests.

· Mons Peter will continue to say his video mass each Friday and St. Kilian’s will continue with their live streamed mass each Sunday at 10.00am.

New - 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time

On the weekend some of you may have joined the crowd and watched the Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma. Its central argument is that the algorithms that determine what we see on our social media is one of the reasons that people's views of each other have become so fractured. Essentially, these algorithms determine what interests us, and then continually feed back stories that conform to those interests. After a while, we become entrenched in our world view and anything that contradicts that view is suspect. A lack of agreement on 'facts' is polarising our communities and destroying the social fabric of our lives.

How timely then is Pope Francis' new encyclical letter Fratelli Tutti, in which the Pope suggests ways in which we can build a world in which we recognise each other as brothers and sisters of one human family. Pope Francis signed the encylical on Saturday after celebrating Mass at the tomb of St Francis in Assisi, Italy.

Addressed to 'brothers and sisters all', Pope Francis said it was 'an invitation to dialogue among all people'. According to Gerald O'Connell's review in America Magazine, the Pope does not claim 'to offer a complete teaching on fraternal love, but rather to consider its universal scope, its openness to every man and woman'.

NEW - Looking at the Readings

A wedding banquet or feast is a great image of the kingdom of heaven. Isaiah and Our Lord Jesus present this image as the eschatological event – that is the activity in heaven at the end of time. Preparations are made, the menu organised, the invitations are sent, and the experiences are anticipated: the end of sadness and death (Is 25:7), the place filled (Matt 22:10); and “we shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of our lives.” (cf Ps 23:6)

Today’s parable is the third in a row addressed to the chief priests of the Temple, the Pharisees and the elders of the community. Christ is warning his listeners then and now that all are invited, but not all respond accordingly. His warning adds the consequence the invitees may find themselves out in the cold and the dark. We need to make life choices based on what is good and right, physically, morally, socially, spiritually and finally. Jesus’ invitation is in the form of his grace and love; our reply is by our life of integrity and love.

The late David McPhee

David was a past student at St. Mary’s school and sadly passed away in Geelong on 24th September. His parents Pat and Ken were long time parishioners here until they moved to Mulwala 10 years ago.

There will be a memorial service for David next year on his birthday which is 13/3/2021.

New - Carers Week

11th October to 17th October

We acknowledge and celebrate our carers. They provide unpaid care and support for family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are aged and frail. These carers are often inadequately supported and face their own mental health and well being challenges. Please acknowledge them, and look for ways to support them by listening and building relationships.
