Virtual Arts & Technology Showcase

Visual Arts News

It has been a strange year for the visual arts, with remote learning requiring students to be innovative about the materials they source and use in their art projects. Even the presentation of exemplary student work has gone digital this year with our annual Arts and Technology Showcase being presented virtually.

What remote learning also provided students this year were some additional ways to express their creativity outside of the school environment. One such example was the Speaking 4 the Planet competition, that included an art component responding to the prompt of ‘I am Water’.

You would have seen in a previous newsletter that Kayli from Year 10 took out the prize for the Scoresby Secondary portion of this competition, with all entries passed on to the external competition open to all students in the Knox region.

I can now proudly announce that Kayli was awarded the winning prize for the entire Senior Secondary Art category! A massive congratulations to Kayli. The judges had the following comments regarding her artwork:

“The detail present in the image makes it very engaging. I feel drawn into all of the details such as the skeletons of the fish and the figure. The scene itself is also very imaginative with excellent colour choice.”

Additionally, Joey in Year 9 took out the runners up prize in the Senior Secondary category. Well done, Joey! The judges had the following comments regarding his artwork:

“Use of depth and lighting is quite visually engaging. ‘Earth-chan’ character falling through a body of water (in a scene somewhat similar to a city night sky – glass and lights) is very imaginative.”

A clean sweep of the competition to Scoresby Secondary, which is an enormous achievement!

These artworks and many others are on display in this year’s Virtual Arts and Technology Showcase, alongside work from the following primary schools:

  • Knox Park Primary School
  • Mountain Gate Primary School
  • Scoresby Primary School
  • Wantirna South Primary School

The launch date is Wednesday 18 November, the People’s Choice ‘Shortlist’ voting running until Wednesday the 25 November.
