Year 9

Choose to Challenge
Last Friday we celebrated International Women’s Day and enjoyed a lovely breakfast together. Our guest speaker, past pupil and Channel 9 news reporter Eliza Rugg, reflected on how her experience of being a Kilbreda girl had enabled her to follow her passion with conviction and strength. She also shared poignant messages about the women she encountered in her life’s journey who had been an inspiration to her.
I take this opportunity to thank all staff, students and guests who contributed to the success of our International Women’s Day celebrations.
Pastoral Program
As we continue our Pastoral Program on Day 2, we encourage our Year 9 students to feel empowered and encouraged to develop a sense of identity and belonging. They will learn the importance of communication through pro-social skills and connection with adults and their peers alike. They will identify the importance of values and beliefs and develop an understanding of their own limits and expectations. We believe school engagement and constructive use of time is imperative to their development.
Safer Internet Day 2021
To continue the conversation from Safer Internet Day in February, I encourage you to access the live and free webinars offered through the ESafety Commissioner Website, which you can find HERE.
These seminars will explore how parents and carers can support young people to have safe and respectful online relationships and what to do if things go wrong. They will cover: starting conversations with your child about their online friendships and positive ways to deal with changing relationships, understanding the rights, laws and community expectations that govern social media use and where to seek help if your child is involved in a cyberbullying incident
The webinars will include case studies, research and targeted advice so you can support the young people in your life to have safe, enjoyable online experiences.
Congratulations!

Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award
Well done to all of the students who have now registered to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. Students need to submit their assessor forms for their skill, physical recreation and service components ASAP so they can start logging their hours.
With the Practice Journey being held at the end of the term in conjunction with the Year 9 BRIDGES Camp, preparations are well underway! Meetings will be held in the coming weeks regarding food, what to bring, logistics and how to pack a pack. Students need to make sure they attend all meetings and check Google Classroom for updates.
