Year 7

“For I know the plans I have for you”,
declares the LORD,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future”.
Jeremiah 29:11
Just like the prophets of the Hebrew Scriptures did, schools tend to focus on the future and their hopes. Sometimes we focus so much on what might happen that we can lose sight of the presence of God and of God’s guiding hand in the present moment.
The Year 7 students deserve to be congratulated for the way in which they have embraced their present moments, and all the challenges of beginning their journey at Kilbreda with enthusiasm, generosity of spirit and genuine care for one another. No doubt there have been moments of exhaustion, feeling overwhelmed and perhaps even some temper tantrums, but the transition to secondary school can be filled with moments of joy as well.
It is a particular joy to see so many girls at school early each morning, waiting for the classrooms to open, and the friendly way that they greet each other and their teachers. We are all looking forward to the Year 7 camp at Lord Somers next week with real excitement and wonder. No doubt there will be laughter, embarrassing moments and memories made.
We congratulate Molly Rizun of 7-72, who was a ball kid at the recent Australian Open. Molly was also nominated by her ball kid supervisors for her outstanding performance on and off the court and for giving 110% to her duties so they rewarded her with the honour of being an official Flag Bearer for the Finals. Molly was also chosen again to hold Naomi Osaka’s Japanese Flag when she walked out on the court for the finals. This is a wonderful achievement and is testament to Molly’s commitment, hard work and maturity.
As we near the middle of Lent and of Term 1, Year 7s can be very proud of the way that they have become Kilbreda girls. No doubt their sense of collective identity and their pride in this identity will grow and develop under the guidance of their wonderful Homeroom Teachers as the year progresses.
