Religious Education

Year 7 students have been learning about the history of the College in their Religious Education classes. Understanding the Catholic and Brigidine heritage and traditions are important for all Kilbreda girls and gaining this knowledge at the start of their Kilbreda journey helps to support Year 7 students in their transition to the College. A tour of the College is conducted by Mr Damian Smith, teacher and archivist, who brings the stories of Kilbreda to life as the girls uncover the rich and diverse history of this wonderful school. Walking through the corridors and exploring the original buildings provides students with a real sense of the vision and purpose of the College.

The story of the brave and courageous Brigidine Sisters is told through different narratives as students take the tour with Mr Smith. Leaving behind what they knew and all that they had in Ireland, the Brigidine Sisters took up the call on their lives to move to Australia in the pursuit of providing Catholic education. Throughout the tour students discover symbols of the Brigidine charism and learn about their meaning and importance to the legacy of the Brigidines and the responsibility we have as members of the Kilbreda community to uphold the values of the Brigidine Sisters and carry on the important works inspired by St Brigid, Nano Nagle and Daniel Delany.

Kilbreda girls are called to aspire to be people of hope and compassion with a personal commitment to justice and the courage to respond with a willing and open heart to the needs of others. Whilst these values are spoken about in Religious Education classes they are also encouraged throughout other programs in in other curriculum areas. At the College our faith is lived out through the core gospel values and the Brigidine tradition of ‘Strength and Kindliness’. Our College motto encompasses who St Brigid was and the inspiration she provided the Brigidine Sisters, and still speaks to us today as members of the Kilbreda College community.

As our students experience a Kilbreda education may their journey be an inspiration for the development of strength and kindliness in their lives.
