YEAR 7 RECRUITMENT

Thank you to all parents and students for your patience during the Covid modified recruitment process. By now most year 7s who have shown interest in playing an instrument have received their letters of offer and had an introductory lesson with their instrumental teacher. If your child has not received an offer and you expected one, or If you didn’t submit a survey and would still like to learn an instrument, please contact Mr Dean via email at Nicholas.Dean@education.vic.gov.au.

We are very excited about the calibre of students taking on instruments this year and the numbers on each instrument are very healthy. After a delayed start everything is set for an exciting year of music activities for the new cohort of music students.

PURCHASING INSTRUMENTS

The school has a limited number of instruments available to hire year 7 students, however, if you are unable to hire from school, buying an instrument is not necessarily as expensive as you might think. Instruments hold their value very well and especially if you can find a good second-hand instrument, you can resell it later for almost the same as you bought it for. Gumtree and eBay often have adds for instruments that have hardly been played. See it as an investment in your child’s development and if it doesn’t work out you won’t have lost much if you resell again later. Many retailers also offer a hire to buy option so the initial outlay is a little bit easier to handle.

Please don’t buy cheap options for the sake of saving a few dollars. They are often made with inferior materials and are impossible to repair if anything goes wrong. Our instrumental staff are always willing to give advice on which instruments are best to buy. If you haven’t received a buying advice page with your letter of offer or still have questions, please contact your instrumental teacher or Mr Dean.

ROCK PROGRAM

All the auditions for the Rock Program were held in the first weeks of term and we are excited to have six active rock bands this year with over 30 students involved. Rehearsals are going really well and bands are settling into their new line ups. Our first lunchtime concert on the Music Centre stage will be in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!

MUSIC LEVIES

Thank you to everyone who has made their Music Levy payment. The majority of current music students levies have been paid. Year 7 levy payment due dates have been extended due to the delay in recruitment, however, lessons will not be given until payment is made. Please arrange payment or the payment plan, as soon as possible.
