From the Principal's Desk

With Mr Scott Taprell

It's week 4 already, this term is flying by. During the last three weeks,  we have managed to hold two swimming carnivals. We were fortunate to have perfect weather, which gave the opportunity for our Primary and Secondary departments to hold the carnivals and provide a fun day for the students. It’s nice to get back to some normality, something we missed very much last year.

We have also had our first P&C Meeting. These meetings provide a fantastic opportunity for parents to meet with some of our staff to discuss issues they may be concerned about and to find out what is happening at the school and how they might assist. I would recommend that if you are available, you join us for these informal meetings, which occur just a couple of times a term.  Please come along. At the meeting we discussed fundraising, the Self Select Class in Year 9 (there will be an article about this in our upcoming newsletters), our HSC results, the Wellbeing Hub, the Out of Home Care Facility and the Cooler Schools Project.

The next P&C Meeting is in week 7 and will be our AGM. It will also include a session on how to engage with the technology which MCS uses to inform parents what is happening at the school.

THE WELLBEING HUB AT MOLONG CENTRAL SCHOOL

Our School is leading the way regarding to supporting students’ holistic health and wellbeing with the establishment of our Wellbeing Hub within the school grounds for students, staff and families to access.

This initiative is aligned closely with the Department of Education’s Wellbeing Framework for schools, which is their commitment to public schools to support students to connect, succeed and thrive at each stage of their development and learning. Thereby ensuring that at Molong Central School every student is known, valued and cared for.

The Wellbeing Hub was developed by the executive staff and supported by the staff of MCS, who all shared the vision of a safe and engaging space for students and their families to access.

In cooperation with our community partners, committed staff and generous volunteers, Molong Central School has transformed the old Principal's residence into our own Wellbeing Hub.  Creating a modern and safe place for students and their parents/carers to access supports, programs and wellbeing or teaching staff, aiming to meet the needs of the entire Molong Central School community from Kindergarten to Year 12.

The Wellbeing Hub provides a facility for visiting services and community agencies to access, enabling them to provide professional support to our students and families.

The Wellbeing Hub is also the home to our School Counselling Service, Student Support Officer (SSO), Aboriginal Education Officers (AEO) and other Wellbeing team members from the Student Learning Support Team (SLSO).

For further information regarding the Wellbeing Hub, please don’t hesitate to contact Gay Somerville - (Student Support Officer), or visit the school website and explore the new Wellbeing content that is being regularly updated.

This Newsletter focuses on our transition years.

Kindergarten, Year 7 and Year 11. All of these years indicate a substantial change for students and we are really monitoring how the students in these years are going so that we can assist them with the transition and help them settle in quickly to a routine which maximises learning.
