SWPBS - Term 1 Focus

School Wide Positive Behaviour Support

This term, the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Team is focusing on Learning Behaviour, in particular:

‘I use High Impact Learning Strategies to reach my goals and reflect on the effectiveness of those strategies’

LEARNING BEHAVIOUR: ‘I use High Impact Learning Strategies to reach my goals and reflect on the effectiveness of those strategies’

During this term, we are focusing on teaching students the importance of using High Impact Learning Strategies to reach their goals and to reflect on the effectiveness of those strategies.

What does this look like?

  • Using an interactive notebook, including Teacher Side and Student Side
  • Setting and reflecting on goals
  • Evaluating Understanding and Effort
  • Explicitly identifying which High Impact Strategy you are using
  • Knowing why you are using this strategy
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of this strategy

These High Impact Strategies are embedded in the lesson structure here at Staughton.

The next step is for the students to understand how to identify these strategies, practice using them, and to choose the most effective for their own learning.

Why SWPBS?

School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) is a whole-school framework that provides an approach to promote positive behaviour at school. It is an evidence-based approach to teaching students positive behaviour. Research has shown that SWPBS programs are successful in increasing positive behaviour, improving school culture, and increasing academic performance. Rewarding the behaviours we want to see is an important way of increasing their frequency.
