Greenhills Gazillions - First Reward Achieved!
We are so proud of the way that all our students have started off the year at Greenhills. As mentioned in previous newsletters, we have started a whole school positive behaviour approach with a focus towards showing our Greenhills values. Students have been working hard inside and outside the classroom to earn our Greenhills 10 cent pieces. On Friday, students achieved our first whole school reward receiving an icy pole to celebrate. Our total achieved at the end of the day Friday, was an amazing $554.80. This means that students have earnt an incredible 5,548 coins over the first 4 weeks of the year. Our next target is to earn $1500 as a whole school. In the office and spare portable there are TVs displaying a running total of our whole school’s earnings.
Our staff focus on acknowledging expected behaviour, through using clear vocabulary reinforcing the behaviour, providing positive feedback and then reinforcing with a positive consequence (a gazillion). Research shows that a ratio of 4 positive reinforcements to 1 behaviour correction (4:1) is best practise in schools and we strive to achieve this inside and outside of our classrooms.
One of the highlights of the Greenhills Gazillions is seeing students celebrating other’s achievements and identifying ways that their peers have demonstrated our values. This positivity spreads inside and outside of our classrooms. It creates a happy and safe learning environment, which allows for the best possible learning conditions for our students.
We encourage families to talk to their children about their positive behaviour achievements at school. Ask what they have received their gazillions for and celebrate their achievements with them.
