School Council
2023
Rachael Fleury
I’m Rachael Fleury, and we have Ollie Mantell in Prep. We’re just beginning our journey at the school, and as we’re likely to be here for the next seven years, I figured it’s a great time to get involved and see how we can best contribute. My background is in communications and media management, particularly at the local government level. A well-informed and effective school council is vital in helping a school run at its best, and representing all our voices is essential. I'd love to hear your thoughts on what is being done well and where you think improvements can be made to help make the primary years happy and successful for all our kids.
Sally Mackie
Hi, my name is Sally Mackie. I have two children in Grades 4 and 6 (Sam and Tom) and our eldest (Angus) is in Year 8 at St Ignatius.
Our family has lived in Barwon Heads since 2017 and we love this community! We particularly enjoy getting involved in the local footy and cricket clubs, along with many other fabulous activities this town has to offer. I've really enjoyed being a member of the school council for the last 3 years and continue to learn more about the strengths and areas of focus for the school.
With my background as an employment lawyer, and growing up in an extended family of teachers, I'm particularly focused on how each child can be supported to achieve their best educational and wellbeing outcomes. My experience working in various corporate organisations enables me to bring a different perspective – where we continue to challenge ourselves to always do better for our children as a school community. I'm always keen for a chat, so please let me know any thoughts you have on what we're doing well and/or can be doing better.
Fun fact: Travel is my favourite thing to do!!
Lucy Coventry
My name is Lucy Coventry, and I have Hugo in grade 2 and Zoe in grade 5. I am very excited to join the school council for the first time this year. My hopes for the students in 2023 would be building on their resilience and emotional wellbeing, celebrating personal and shared achievements, and creating wonderful leaders and stewardship for the future. My background is Science with a focus on Marine Biology and education with a passion for sustainability and blending science with art. I currently work with children in both bush and beach settings to connect kids to nature, build curiosity and engagement in the natural environment.
You will probably find me walking my puppy Maple, the Cocker Spaniel or getting salty. I look forward to contributing to our wonderful school and please feel free to come and talk to me if you see me in the school yard or garden space.
Kirsty Waldron
I’m Kirsty Waldron (Cassidy) I have two girls at BHPS, Frankie in Grade 2 and Lola in Grade Prep. I wanted to be on the council as a parent of students in their junior years and to be involved in the school community having a voice for my peers.
I have recently started a new job which is all about pathways and opportunities for secondary school students. I saw the opportunity to get a look inside the primary school sector, by giving myself professional development as well as giving my expertise back to the school community.
Big goals are achieved by taking little steps… being a part of a student’s big goal by helping with those little steps, and giving them every opportunity is something I want to be involved in.
Elisha Hastie
I’m a mum of 2 (Georgia – 9 years old, in Grade 4, Charlotte – 3 years old, in Kinder). I am currently completing my 2nd year of a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy and am passionate about how we can work with communities to cultivate positive changes in health and well-being. I look forward to serving on the School Council and appreciate the opportunity to learn from the leadership group and other council members.
Michael Rhook
Father of Toby Rhook Grade 4
‘just as the twig is bent, so the tree is inclined’ A.Pope (1732). School Council is important as it is our chance to help our school staff grow stronger trees with the support of the community.
I have been an executive director and consultant to some of Australia’s larger and smaller health services mainly in the area of finances and decision making. Helping with governance, resource allocation and decision making for our front-line staff can be rewarding as it frees up professional people to do what they do best.
My hope is that all teachers and students share a positive experience with their fellow students, teachers and the broader community during their primary-school years. I would like to think that the school council can help resource the school’s professional staff along this journey.

Nicole Bacely
Hi I’m Nicole and I’ve had the pleasure of putting three kids through primary school at Barwon Heads. I have two kids still enjoying their time here, Mila and Harry Bacely.
This is my second year on school council and I’m excited to continue to give back to the community in any way I can.
During my spare time I work to solve complex problems using human centered design principles and, designing new products to meet our customer needs in the private health insurance sector.
Empathy is a key principle of understanding a person's needs and I hope to bring this to my role on the school board.
