Harmony Week
This week in Pos Ed our Grade 5 students having been looking at the Character Strength of Friendship. We have been learning about Harmony Week, and how we could use friendship as a tool to create inclusion and harmony within our school, families, community and country. In our Pos Ed lessons, we have completed different activities where we either created a recipe for harmony, or developed an inclusive advertisement for a product. Throughout this we have been building our understanding of how small gestures and kind words can create and foster friendships, which leads to positive, inclusive and calm environments for everyone. Our students have thought very carefully about what is needed to ensure we are always using our Character Strength of Friendship and creating harmony for everyone.
Inquiry Projects
We wanted to take a moment to update you on the exciting project that your children have been working on in class. As part of their learning journey in inquiry, mathematics, and literacy, the students have been creating their own open-ended board game projects that promote their understanding of these subjects.
In Inquiry, the students have been learning about the different countries, their cultures, and physical landscapes. They have used this knowledge to design their own game boards that showcase different regions of the world. Some of the games involve traveling through different continents, learning about their unique features and landmarks along the way.
In mathematics, the students have been honing their skills in the four operations - addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. They have incorporated these concepts into their board games, creating challenges that require players to use their math knowledge to progress through the game.
In literacy, the students have been working on improving their sentence structures and the writing cycle. They have created game instructions, descriptions of different places, and clues that require players to use their language skills to advance in the game.
Throughout this project, the students have been encouraged to think creatively and collaboratively, working in teams to design and test their games. They have also been practicing their presentation skills, as they will have the opportunity to share their games with the class and receive feedback from their peers.
We are thrilled with the enthusiasm and dedication that your children have shown throughout this project. We believe that this experience has not only strengthened their understanding of these important subjects but has also developed important skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication.
Thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement.
NAPLAN
We wanted to take a moment to express our pride and admiration for your children for their recent efforts in completing the NAPLAN testing. We understand that standardized testing only captures a small aspect of their brilliance, and we are proud of their growth mindset and willingness to try their best.
As teachers, we value the unique qualities and talents that each student brings to the classroom. We know that your children have worked hard and have made great progress in their learning journey. We encourage you to celebrate their accomplishments and remind them that their worth and value extend far beyond the results of a single test.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your children's education.
Grade 5's keeping our school clean!
This week some of our amazing Grade 5 students have taken it upon themselves to collect some gardening gloves and a rubbish bag, and clean up around our school during their recess time. I'm sure we can all agree that this deserves a place in our newsletter so that we can celebrate their initiative and care for our school and the environment. Well done girls! We are very proud of you all.
