 International Womens Day

Defence Force Career Event

On Wednesday March 8 I visited DFR (Defence Force Recruiting) in the Adelaide CBD where a Women in Defence Leadership Seminar was held. This seminar encouraged and empowered women to take on leadership roles, develop their leadership skills and inspired women to strive for careers in the defence force. This seminar also coincided with International Women’s Day which is also a day to empower women, reflect on their accomplishments and strive for gender equality. The day included getting to know and collaborating with other women interested in joining the defence force, listening to a wide range of guest speakers from different services, the opportunity to talk to other ranking officers and airmen about careers and finally collating all of our knowledge and skills in a few activities. This seminar not only taught me about a range of effective leadership styles and skills,  but it also boosted my confidence as a female to strive for my career goals, take on leadership positions and be comfortable in being me.

Hospitality Skills are in Demand

The global hospitality industry is booming with career opportunities in 2023, and the post-pandemic recovery in travel and dining is expected to continue over the next few years. The hospitality industry is now listed right up there at number five on the Forbes list of Five Top Industries For Job Seekers. Learning the basic skills required to work in hospitality is as easy as enrolling in the Queensford College Hospitality Short Course running during the July and October School Holidays.

Students will receive accreditation in Food Safety, Barista Training , Food and Beverage Service, along with receiving 20 Stage 2 SACE credits (not for ATAR).

Talk to Mrs Fitridge if you are interested in the 4-day short course!

Another well-established training provider, The International College of Hotel Management (ICHM) is offering Discovery Days which aim to get students thinking differently about their post high school studies and career development. The one day exploration and information day covers a range of exciting topics including international business and tourism, luxury hotel design and hospitality career opportunities.

This is an ideal opportunity for students who are currently in Year 10-12 and are interested in business, hotel management and/or the hospitality industry, and want to discover more about a possible career path in a luxury hotel.

The Discovery Days are being held on various days in throughout Terms 1, 2 and 3.

Check your student email for further details and talk to Mrs Fitridge if you are interested in attending.
