Dear Sacred Heart Community,
RECONCILIATION
A number of our students in Grades 3 & 4 made the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time last night. The children took this special step in their faith seriously and respectfully and I congratulate them all. It was also lovely to see so many of their classmates in attendance to offer support and encouragement.
SAINT PATRICK DAY MASS AT ST. PAT'S CATHEDRAL
Last Friday, I had the pleasure of accompanying our 4 school captains to the Saint Patrick's Day Mass in the city at St. Patrick's Cathedral. The Mass and concert were part of events held to celebrate Catholic Education Week. It was the first time in a number of years that this Mass has been held with representatives from the majority of primary and secondary schools in the Melbourne Archdiocese attending.
Whilst it was a long Mass, there was a wonderful atmosphere in the cathedral, much to watch and be a part of and all of the children mentioned enjoying listening to the beautiful choir. Afterward, we walked with many other Catholic primary school students to the Treasury Gardens where there was a concert with a number of secondary school bands performing and also fun games set up. We had a great day out together and I was very proud of the way Amelia, Enock, Yash, and Jemimah represented themselves and Sacred Heart.

CARITAS PROJECT COMPASSION
The theme of Project Compassion 2023 is ‘For All Future Generations’ and reminds us that the good we do today extends to impact the lives of generations to come.
This week through Project Compassion we learn about Thu, who lives in Vietnam. When Thu was 12 years old, he stepped on an unexploded land mine and lost his leg.
Living with a disability in rural Vietnam presented many challenges for Thu, who worked mainly as a rice farmer. Thu also took on the role of caring for his wife, Linh, after she suffered a stroke.
Determined to turn their lives around, Thu and Linh joined the Empowerment of People with Disabilities program, run by Caritas Australia’s local partner in Vietnam, the Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD).
For Thu, the greatest impact the program has had is enabling the change in Linh’s physical and mental wellbeing. With the support of a physiotherapist, Linh can now walk short distances with the aid of a walking stick.
Watch a short film about Thu’s story here.
Each class has a Project Compassion box for donations or you can donate online via the Caritas Australia website at: www.caritas.org.au/project-compassion
Take Care,
Kate Harris
