Harmony Week

After an amazing and exciting week full of harmonious gestures, language and experience, the school was able to raise $583.30 which has been transported to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre where it is in good hands and will go towards the ASRC Food Bank.

Thank you to all parents, teachers and students for your generous support and donations towards this good cause.

As a recap of what we did to celebrate this famous week, on Tuesday the Community Team were able to provide the school with a dress up day to represent clothing from their cultures and nationalities. We were also able to let those who wanted to, wear the colour orange as a symbol of Harmony which was awesome and amazing to see. The community team was also lucky enough to be able to share books that represent Harmony week to all of the classes throughout the school.

It was awesome to see that kids were able to recognise and respect the reasons why we celebrate this day and there was a wide variety of kids that were willing to share all throughout the class on their thoughts on the book.

We thank all of the grade teachers that helped us make sure that all kids willing to write a word, draw a picture or celebrate their culture in anyway, were able to on a letter that was provided to them and made sure they were taken up to the office so that we were able to make a beautiful display in the entrance way, near the office in the main building.

We hope that everyone enjoyed and were happy with the way and reason we did this and hope everyone had a good time.

Special thanks to mentors, Justine Wang and Amy Simula from the Cultural Diveristy and Inclusion team, for their support of the Year 6 Community Team.

Relay for Life

Thank you to Alicia Smith for organising the opportunity for our staff to join Auburn High's team for the Hawthorn Relay for Life on Satuday 1st April. The team paid tribute to the late Maria Karvouni, who was an incredible leader as the princpal of Auburn High and passed away due to illness last year.

Thank you to Alicia Smith, Benny Chan, Juliette Castellino and Emily Hui for participating.

For all the cancer survivors, carers, and those who have passed, and all their families, we remember and we carry the baton of hope!

The 72nd Annual Science Talent Search

The Science Teachers’ Association of Victoria Inc. invites all students at Auburn South Primary School to enter this year’s Science Talent Search. You may enter as an individual or as part of a group of two. You may enter into one or more of the Sections described in the handbook. STS handbook

Why enter the Science Talent Search?

Apart from it being a long-standing ASPS tradition, its significance lies in its opportunity to provide authentic open-ended inquiry. As an IB school we want to help our students develop a broader understanding and application of science and technology in the wider community.  The Science Talent Search is a program that allows children to experience science inquiries through open project work.  In doing so, it develops the attitudes and dispositions highlighted in the IB Learner Profile, as well as the Approaches to Learning (ATL), the skills deemed critical for IB students in school and life.

According to STAV, the Science Teachers’ Association the STS has three broad aims:

  1. To stimulate an ongoing interest in the study of sciences by:
    1. encouraging independent self-motivated project work amongst students of science;
    2. giving students the opportunity to communicate their achievements to a wider audience;
    3. according recognition of effort and achievement in a scientific enterprise.
  2. To promote the direct involvement of the students in the processes of science and its communication.
  3. To give the public at large an opportunity to see the quality of work being achieved in science, by both primary and post primary students.

All students who enter will be eligible for awards such as bursaries and/or certificates.
