Music

In the Years 1 and 2 Music program we have been continuing to build skills on instruments. We have been focussing on percussion (djembe and agogo bells), marimba and voice. Our theme has been Music from Around the World. Students have learnt about the role music plays in different cultures as well as getting plenty of hands-on experiences playing other cultures’ rhythms, music and songs.

A major goal for the Years 1 and 2 students this year was to improve pitch in singing. We have worked on developing a strong sense of pitch in our singing and understanding how to use our voice. This term we have a bunch of new, fun and exciting songs that we have been singing.

We had 21 Year 2 students attend auditions at recess and lunch last Tuesday for the opportunity to sing at the Art Show. This shows the amazing enthusiasm our students have for music. More information about the Year 2 Art Show Singers will be shared shortly.

Physical Education

So far in Term 4, our Year 3 and 4 students have been focusing on their basketball skills. We practiced our shooting, passing and communication skills. We are also focusing on our sportsmanship and teamwork skills, which I have been very impressed with so far. Students are encouraged to end each game with a handshake or high five. In the next few weeks, we will focus on our soccer skills as we prepare for our Soccer Gala Day in December.

Visual Arts

The Years 5 and 6 students have been so excited to complete their Personal Projects - an artwork they get to plan and create themselves. After two weeks of creating, this week was a time for students to celebrate the fantastic work they have all done. This week, they presented their Personal Projects to me and their class.  This was also a time for students to reflect on the process and discuss their successes and their challenges with their peers. Students were marked on their discussions and how well they could articulate their creative process. Seeing the passion and excitement the students have had while creating works of their choosing has made me incredibly proud. Great work, Years 5 and 6 students!

Library

We have had a lot of new books for the students to browse and borrow during their library sessions. Classes are continuing to visit the library weekly to check out books and read quietly.
