To market, to market...

Hendrix Gauci

SRC - Year 8 Representative

The Twilight market was an extremely fun night for everyone at the event.  It took months of planning from the SRC to make this event happen, and I would like to applaud all of the SRC Twilight Market Committee for all their work on this project.

The role I played on the day, it started at 2:00 pm when I was helping to clear F block furniture out, as well as helping the Parents’ Association to help get all the cakes ready for the cake stall. At 3:30 pm, the store holders and vendors arrived and all the SRC students were there to help vendors bring all their items into F Block for their stalls.

Then it was finally time - 5:00 pm - and the market began. It was off to a great start, with a huge crowd gathering (one of the biggest for a BSC event). Food trucks were selling their goods like crazy, while visitors listened to live music performances by students. Everyone was having a really good time!

My role was to help out with many things. I took a few photos and I ran the photo booth for most of the second half of the market. At the end of the market, I mostly worked hard helping the store holders with their items back to their cars, and to make F Block ready for school on Monday morning.

Overall, the market was extremely successful as a lot of money was raised to the school, everyone had a fantastic night and the pack up was very quick and efficient! Weaimed to finish the pack up by 9:30 but we finished by 9:10 so everyone got to go home early. While at times it was stressful, it was very fun to be a part of and I hope it can go ahead next year and be bigger and better.

The Twilight Market was a huge success considering the weather, and the outcome for the community was amazing. But beforehand, it wouldn’t have happened without the help of all the SRC students - with the set up of all the stalls or setting up the music equipment, which included rolling a whole trolley of music stands. During the market, students contributed by manning the photobooth and constantly running to dry the chairs and tables when it would randomly start to rain! These students continued to work hard at the end of the night, getting F block back to normal, picking up all the trash and getting things ready for Monday. Even though the weather wasn’t perfect the Twilight Market was worth it, and I am very glad to be able to help make it happen - considering the pandemic has stopped it for the past 2 years. Other than that, it was so much fun the whole night!

SRC Coordinator

The BSC Twilight Market executed in the first week of this term proved to be a fabulous event.

Even given the threat of bad weather and reduced crowds, there were over 40 stalls in play including Parents’ Association fundraisers, food trucks, cocurricular clubs (Gourmet Club, VCAL Bella's Gifts and the Rainbow Room) as well as external vendors participating. We were especially pleased to host several non-profit organisations including the Brunswick Girl Guides, Coburg Little Athletics Club, Sisterworks and Adoring Angels, as well as have several enterprising students promoting their own personal business ventures.

The overwhelming support of the wider school community was evident as the crowd rolled in and proceeded to have a great time.  We are so grateful that so many community members braved the ever-threatening storms to share their evening with us, including some past students making an appearance - a further bonus for us all!

Our stall vendors were an amazing group - full of enthusiasm and fun - and had such fabulous wares on show.  They really made the event a joy for SRC team that organised and ran the event.  So many visitors commented on the quality and variety of the stalls, not to mention the customer service and festive vibe that our stallholders radiated. in turn, the vendors were particularly impressed with the SRC students ability and skill in working with them to set up stalls and to provide information and direction.Vendors not only offered these compliments at the event, but backed it up with emails post-event!  They have commented on our students exemplary 'people skills', how polite and helpful students were, and how this interaction helped to make the market a very positive experience for themselves as vendors.  Follow up feedback has indicated that most of the vendors have requested to be invited again next year!

And who made all this possible?

Having been in forced hiatus for two years, the Twilight Market provided opportunity for us to gather and celebrate the strength, pride and resilience of our school community.  Its success is a credit to the efforts of school captains Ryan Wu and  Sienna Seychell and their SRC Twilight Market Committee who designed the event. At the event SRC Representatives put in a fabulous effort  - contributing considerably to the evening by clearing and setting up the spaces, directing and assisting vendors, monitoring rubbish removal,  clearing and cleaning (and drying!) tables and chairs, as well staying on after trading to ensure that the school spaces were returned to rights and ready for classes on Monday.

The Student Representative Council extends its sincere thanks to all of our stallholders,  the fantastic members of the BSC Parents’ Association, Claudia Johnson (Assistant Principal), Ray Stivala (Facilities Manager), Olivia Cruse (Food Studies), Lindel Bell (Administration), Chris Salmond (Business Manager) and our fabulous administration staff, and of course Emily Palekis (Director of Music), Instrumental Music staff and their extraordinarily talented students for their enthusiasm, commitment, support and hard work toward the event.

Without them all,   the Twilight Market just would not be the same - distinctly Brunswick and distinctly Brilliant!
