Business Fair

There's no Business, like Lunchtime Business!

Matthew Lynch

Teacher - Commerce

The Year 10 Commerce class recently ran a lunchtime Business Fair for Charity  in the A block courtyard.

In groups, the students had used their entrepreneurial skills to choose a product to make, advertise and then to sell to the school community. Stalls sold sausages, cakes, doughnuts, pretzels, and soft drinks. It was a challenging undertaking project which proved very successful and was lots of fun for all the participants!

The advertising material which had been put up around the school generated a lot of expectation and interest. The courtyard filled quickly with students from all year levels keen to see what was on sale. There was a buzz and a real market vibe as sellers sold to grateful customers! Most of the stalls were sold out by the end of lunchtime.

The Commerce student comments on the activity included:

“Very successful!”
"A good opportunity to learn how to handle money and manage inventory."
“I enjoyed the selling part…..bartering with the customers was fun!”

The students of the Year 10 Commerce class demonstrated great entrepreneurial flair, teamwork and planning skills on this project.

Each group did indeed make a profit at the Business Fair which they then donated to the Immune Deficiencies Foundation Australia (IDFA).
The total profit donated was $668.95!

The IDFA Charity was chosen by the group that had made the largest profit on the day - Hugo Reeves, Ben Sala, Chanel Mohamed and Akira Kikuchi.
