Armidale Diocesan Gala Day - November 4th, 2022 - Yr 3 & 4

This is a fun filled “come and participate” day open to all primary students. After two postponements last term, we have a new date set for the Armidale Soccer Gala Day. The new date is Friday 4th November. Unfortunately, this means our Year 5 & 6 students will miss out as they are on their Canberra excursion that day. We would still like our Year 3 & 4 students who nominated last term to attend and experience this fun filled day of sport and teamwork. A note has been sent home with nominated students to indicate their means of travel to the Gala Day. Thank you to those parents who have indicated they can assist with transporting children, please email Robyn Wilson directly if you have any questions regarding transport for your child, as she will be the supervising teacher for the day.

Event: Details: Diocesan Soccer Gala Day Y3-6

Date:  Friday 4th of November.

Time: 9am for 9:30am start. Finish time - 2pm.

Cost: $5 to be paid on Compass.

Venue: Gipp St playing fields, Tamworth.

Uniform:  Sports Uniform, shin pads and long socks to cover shin pads (these do not need to be school colours). For those who do not own shin pads, there are some available to borrow from school but they are quite small. If you have spare shin pads at home that may be suitable, could you please send them into school in a bag marked with your name. Mrs Wilson will distribute these and ensure they are returned to you. Please let Mrs Wilson know if you need to borrow shin pads.

Week 2-6 Sport

Last week marked our last basketball session. The students have had the opportunity to develop their throwing, catching and bouncing skills through the game of basketball and we thank Ricky for making the experience both fun and engaging for our students. Sport for week 2 through to week 6 will be school based and in class groups.

Term 4 Swimming - Weeks 7-10

Once again this year students are lucky to be heading to the Quirindi Pool for whole school swimming for 4 weeks, starting in week 7 and running through to week 10. Teachers will conduct a water confidence and skills checklist during our first swimming session, which will determine student groups. Parents will also have the opportunity to indicate their child's ability/confidence level on the permission form, which will soon be made available on Compass.

The focus of these sessions for our infants students is water confidence. Students will develop skills in propelling through the water in a streamlined position, using arm action and continuous kicking. For our primary students and more confident swimmers our sessions will give students opportunities to perform a range of swimming and water rescue skills, eg freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, entry and exit in deep water, deep dive and rope rescue.
