Mrs Sharnie Meade - Stage 1

Literacy - Guided Reading

This term, Stage 1 are lucky to have four adults in the room during Guided Reading time.  This means that every single child is being read with, in a small group (2-5 students) every day at school.  The impact of this commitment to student reading is already being seen. The students' confidence is growing, and reading skills like fluency, decoding and comprehension/retell of texts are improving.  Well done to Stage 1 for all their hard work!   Below are some of the Guided Reading groups from the last couple of weeks.

Literacy - Big Write

Last week our students completed a Big Write on the topic: Should all children have chores to do at home?

There was some varied debate to this topic!  Surprisingly, most students wrote that children SHOULD have chores!

Thank you to all the parents and carers who help their children with the Big Write topics each week; giving the students a chance to share their ideas at home is such an integral part of the Big Write process.

Mathematics:

Last Friday Stage 1 was joined by Kindergarten for our Maths session.  All students loved working together; the kindergartens were very excited to be in the 'big kids' room' and the Stage 1 students led by example to show them the ropes! We did some Maths rotations, with a Whole Number and Addition Focus.  Everyone worked so hard!

Religion:

We have been learning about the ways in which the Bible describes God.  Stage 1 now know that God has been described as a potter, shepherd, and a loving parent.  We even had Father Kingsley visit to explain some things, and to share in some prayer time with us. Here are some photos of the students being potters, and making some of God's wonderful creations.
