A note from Mr Jackson

World Teachers Day

This year, World Teachers’ Day is on Friday 28 October. It is an opportunity to say thank you for the incredible contributions teachers make to our community.

Our students have taken up the invitation to write a letter of thanks and sent them to their school, addressed to the teacher. Our postbox and letterbox have been flooded with letters of thanks. These will be circulated to teachers on World Teachers’ Day. Parents may also like to send a letter addressed to the school expressing their gratitude to teachers.

Concert Video Purchases Due Today

A reminder that today is the final opportunity to receive envelopes for the purchase of copies of the DVD or USB from the concert. As previously shared, it is important to ensure the correct amounts are enclosed and envelopes labelled appropriately.  These were provided during ticket sales. These envelopes are passed directly onto Costello Video. We expect there will be around a two week turnaround!

Year 1 Dinner and Year 2 Snooze

Our students in the 1/2 Learning Area will enjoy a dinner and show on Friday night, while the Year 2 students stay overnight in Chandler Hall. Part of our Camping Program, this evening and over night experience provides an opportunity to gain independence.

While our Preps enjoy a breakfast, our 1/2s a dinner and sleepover, the 3/4s and the 5/6s enjoy the more adventurous camp experiences. Again, we thank the staff for sharing their time so generously.

While changes to workplace agreements have impacted the running of the camping program, we are hopeful that we can continue to enjoy the benefits of these programs in 2023.

Human Development Family Education Night

Over 100 students and their parents gathered on Wednesday night, in two sessions to explore sex education. It was great to see our students in conversations around human development experiences. In discussions with some students this morning, all valued the experience of having a number of their questions explained.

A survey to prepare how this program will be delivered in 2023 will be shared with the community in the coming days. A special thanks to staff who organised and prepared for this important learning event.

Looking Towards 2023

1. Students’ Learning Friends

Students have been thinking carefully about their Learning Friends over the last week. All carers should have received copies of their friendship suggestions to discuss. Parents are now asked to discuss these choices with their child, make changes if required, sign it and return it to the classroom teacher by Wednesday 26 October

2. Parents/Carers Reflections

If there are specific requests for student placement in 2023 that are not covered in students’ identification of learning friendships, you can make a request in writing to the principal. Recognising the complexity of the process, I ask that your requests be limited to not more than three suggestions.  Any parent requests should be sent to the school email address rosanna.ps@education.vic.gov.au. The request should include ‘2023 Class Placement’ in the subject line and be received by Monday, 31 October. Any correspondence received after this date cannot be considered.

In shaping classes, teachers make every effort to consider all factors presented, but we cannot guarantee that all requests will be accommodated. All will be considered. It is important to note that requests for specific teachers cannot be accepted.

TheirCare and Vacation Care End of Year Program

A reminder that TheirCare are eager to gauge the viability of running vacation care programme at the end of the year. School will officially end for students on Monday 19  November. TheirCare want to know if parents would be interested in accessing their services on Tuesday 20 December, Wednesday 21 December and Thursday 22 December. The service will only run if sufficient enrolments can be identified.

Please complete the following survey to express your interest in registering for one, two or even three days prior to Christmas. The survey closes on Monday.

Congratulations to the Junior School Council

We were thrilled to hear this week that the Junior School Council has been nominated for a VICSRC (Victorian Student Councils Peak Body) award. There impressive work at leading the early years in understanding the Deeper Learning Protocols has enriched the learning. Public Holiday - Tuesday 1 November

A reminder that Tuesday 1 November is a Public Holiday. School will be open and students welcomed on Monday 31 October. We understand that some families may take advantage of this period and take a longer weekend holiday break. Please ensure that this is recorded on compass.

2023 Preps Enjoy Their First Orientation

It was wonderful to have our 2023 Preps and their parents join us last Friday for their first orientation session. Both parents and students enjoyed getting to know each other and learning a little more about life in primary school. We look forward to the next session (Friday 28 October) that will continue to ease the transition into the school setting.

Tawny to Fledge - The Latest

A number of students are keeping an eye on the Tawny Frogmouth’s nest in the tree outside the Chandler Hall. A small feathery head has been seen nestling into the adult. We predict that it might fledge over the coming days.
