COVID-19 ADVICE FOR VICTORIAN GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS

We have had several parents asking what they should be doing if their child is unwell. Whilst trying to ensure that their child is not missing school if they only have mild symptoms, and also making sure they do the right thing. It is a little tricky at times, which we do understand.

COVIDSafe measures have changed recently, but all Victorian government schools are required to continue to implement important practices to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

The current guidelines for schools from October 13th 2022, are that:

  • Any student or staff member who displays COVID symptoms should be recommended to test for COVID-19.
  • Parents of students who are symptomatic are asked to collect their child from school and keep them home until they are no longer symptomatic

           The symptoms generally are:

  • Fever
  • Chills or sweats
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Runny nose
  • Loss or change in sense of smell or taste
  • Some people may also experience headache, muscle soreness, stuffy nose, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea

  • Parents should report a student's positive COVID result to the school and complete the result on the COVID Test Portal
  • Students who report a positive result are recommended to isolate for a minimum of 5 days and not attend school until their symptoms have resolved. Students who isolate as a result of a positive COVID-19 test should be supported in the same way as students with an extended absence due to illness or injury, with learning materials provided to support their continued learning.
  • There is no longer a requirement for principals to inform the school community of a positive case associated with the school.

The children at BPS have been given a supply of rapid antigen tests this term to take home.  We will issue another supply in the next few weeks. If you do need any further supplies or you have any concerns, please feel free to contact me.

I hope you all stay healthy and well at this time.
