I must admit this is my favourite time of year, we have sport all around us both at college level and professional level. It seems the last few weeks have been packed with non-stop action which I can’t get enough of.
I must start by saying how impressed I am by our Open Basketball team. This team competed in the 2022 CBSQ tournament over four days at the end of Term 3. We set the bar high and stepped up to the 2nd division where our expectations were to be competitive but take it as a learning opportunity. After a nervous first game and a loss the team found their feet and went all the way to the grand final! The team was resilient under pressure and even staged spirited come backs from behind wins in the last quarter. In the grand final we lost, but really, they won, they won the hearts of each other, their parents and the College.
For the first time we are sending a second team out this weekend to compete in the Junior CBSQ tournament. Never have we had such depth in Basketball, and we wish these girls the very best out there.
Term 3 CaSSSA Sport was also finished strong across a range of sports with our rugby program claiming wins in the Junior and Intermediate grades. Football saw our Year 10 and 11 team finished runner up. Basketball saw both our Open team and Year 12 team finish undefeated - we also picked up a Year 9 Joint Premiership with Touch Football!
Thank you to all the students and parents that have made submissions for the 2022 Sport Awards, it amazes me to see the diversity of sport and how talented the students are in regional, state and even three National team members. We can’t wait to celebrate these achievements with you all next week at Sport Award Assembly.
As we near the end of the year, we are about to release nominations for 2023 sports, keep an eye out for Beach Volleyball, CaSSSA Volleyball and AFL. We also have tennis pre-season kicking off next week for those looking to play in Term 1. Nominations for these can be made via student notices in the coming days.
