Around The Primary

Dear Parents

We have had a fantastic week with lots of sunshine and wonderful learning experiences and activities for our students.

The College Visual Arts Exhibition will be open tomorrow, Saturday 22 October from 11am to 2pm in the Thomas More Exhibition Centre. This Exhibition features artwork from the Secondary and Primary school students.  Tomorrow is your final chance to view the amazing artwork.

Every student from Year 3-6 has a piece of artwork exhibited and there is also a small selection from the Early Years. It is a great opportunity for parents to view artwork across all years and for students to showcase their artwork. We hope many families will come along on Saturday and see the students’ design and creativity skills.

Special thanks to Ms Blaauw (Primary Visual Arts Teacher) for all her hard work to ensure that the Primary school has a range of art forms in this year’s exhibition.

We look forward to having a big family cheer squad at the Junior Primary Athletics Carnival next Thursday 27 October. Don’t forget to wear your parent badge on the day!

Parking will be available in the carpark off Heritage Lane and the main carpark off John XXIII Avenue. Parents and caregivers are reminded not to use the parking areas at Graylands Hospital as you risk receiving a parking infringement.

World Teachers’ Day is celebrated next Friday 28 October. It is a special day to acknowledge the professionalism, dedication, and expertise of all those responsible for educating our students at John XXIII College.  I encourage you to take the time to send an email or personally thank our wonderful educators.

Kind regards

Parliament House

The Year 5 Students had a wonderful time visiting Parliament House last Friday. Our tour guide took us into both the Lower House blue room (Legislative Assembly) and the Upper House red room (Legislative Council) and explained the important role Parliament House has in our State.

We participated in a role play and were able to sit in the actual seats the politicians sit in when parliament is in session! We learnt how our parliamentary system is modelled on the British Westminster System. It was also interesting seeing the many artworks on display that showed some of Western Australia’s history.

At the end of the tour, we all received special souvenirs which we were all grateful to receive.

AQWA

On Monday,  the Year 2 students went on their first excursion to AQWA. We were all so excited about the long bus ride and to learn about the different marine wildlife that live along Western Australia’s coast.

We got to experience lots of fun activities throughout the day. First, we explored the aquarium and then we learnt how animals camouflage in the deep blue ocean. Finally, we went on a scavenger hunt around AQWA to solve a hidden quest. It was such a great day, full of adventure!

Sports Update

Our Year 5 & 6 students have been enjoying learning the game of touch rugby and refining their skills in PE lessons and playing interhouse matches during Thursday sports sessions.  In Week 5,  the Year 6 students will have the opportunity to participate in the IPSHA Touch Rugby Carnival.  More details to follow in coming weeks.

We are all looking forward to seeing lots of parents and significant others at the Junior Primary Athletics Carnival on Thursday 27 October.  The junior primary oval will be full of games, House colours and cheering! Please remember to wear your parent badge.

A reminder for Pre-Primary to Year 3 parents to complete the swimming enrolment forms and return to class teachers before Tuesday 15 November.
